Apparatus YSFC owns and operates includes:

In 2005, YSFC was awarded an $8800 (90/10) Fire Prevention Grant from the Department of Homeland Security.  This grant was for the purchase of fire prevention materials.  We purchased a remote control Sparky with Fire Truck, ‘Kiddie’ Bunker Gear and brochures to be used at our Fire Prevention activities.

YSFC maintains its equipment by performing monthly checks on all equipment.  Most equipment is inspected and serviced annually by trained technicians.

The chart below shows the number of calls YSFC responded in each municipality.  Our busiest municipalities are Latimore (27%) and Huntington (24%) townships.

The chart below shows the number of calls YSFC responded to by day of the week.

The chart below shows the type of incidents YSFC responded to per incident type.  As the chart indicates, YSFC runs a significant amount of automobile accidents (39%).  This is one of the reasons we have concentrated in upgrading our rescue equipment.  This chart also aids the training committee in knowing what types of training to schedule.

NOTE: This does not include pre-arranged Stand-bys (example – Heidlersburg Carnival, Latimore Township Park Day, etc.)

In 2005, YSFC held 11 training sessions.  The training itself was 368.75 hours.  With 162 attendees, the trainings total 59,737.5 hours.  Training sessions have included: auto extrication, CPR/AED, hydrant use, pump operations, rural water supply, Hazardous Materials Operations. Chimney fires, etc.

Ambulance Information

In 2005, the York Springs Ambulance responded to 275 incidents.  The Ambulance had 50 people that responded to those calls.

The Company owns and operates one (1) Basic Life Support Ambulance.  It is a Horton Ambulance on a 2004 Ford E-450 chassis.  Below is a brief description of the equipment on the Ambulance:

In 2005, the Ambulance increased its Mass Casualty and Rehab Operations capabilities.  The Ambulance purchased triage tarps and flags to complement its current capabilities.  We also purchased 2 additional Med portable radios and an additional Fire portable for increased scene communications.  To increase our Rehab equipment, the Ambulance purchased an electric mist fan and canopies.  A specialized Incident Rehab class was held in January 2006.  The Ambulance added five additional pagers for its members.

The York Springs Ambulance performs a monthly inspection of all equipment to ensure we are properly stocked and the equipment functions.  We also have a service provider inspect our oxygen supply systems and monitoring equipment (i.e. – pulse ox, BP cuffs).

In 2005, the Ambulance held 10 training sessions.  The training accounted for 1033 hours.  YSFC Ambulance had 104 attendees at the trainings for a total of 107,432 training hours (people times class hours).  The Ambulance uses a blend of outside Instructors (paid) and its own members for the instruction.  The Ambulance has 4 CPR/AED Instructors, 2 EMT Instructors and 1 Emergency Responder Instructor on staff.  Training sessions included: CPR/AED, Airway Management, Emergency Responder class, Communicable Diseases, epi-pen and pulse ox usage.  Most of the classes are open to our neighboring companies.  Lake Meade, Dillsburg, Biglerville and Heidlersburg regularly send personnel to these classes.  Other companies from Adams, York and Cumberland counties have attended.

The chart below shows the number of calls the Ambulance responded in each municipality.  Our busiest municipalities are Latimore (24%), Huntington (26%) and Tyrone (17%) townships, and York Springs Borough (11%).

The chart below shows which Hospital the Ambulance transported to.  Many of our calls (44%), we do not transport a patient (i.e. - vehicle fire, fire call, auto accident with no injuries).  The Ambulance transports 27% of the time to Gettysburg Hospital.

When the Ambulance is dispatched for a call, the majority (45%) are for medical patients.  The next largest category is vehicle accidents at 36%.  This charts aid our training committee in knowing what education to schedule.  It also lets us know what equipment we use the most and plan for replacement.

The chart below represents the types of medical calls the Ambulance responds to.  This information assists the training committee in preparing education in our concentrated areas.
