LATIMORE TOWNSHIP PARK BOARD MINUTES

 

May 7, 2008

 

The advertised regular monthly meeting of the Latimore Township Park Board was held on May 7, 2008 at the Latimore Township Building at 559 Old U.S. Route 15, York Springs, PA 17372.  The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Chairman Woody Myers.

 

Pledge of Allegiance

 

In Attendance:  Chairman Woody Myers, Vice Chairman Mark Schoppaul, Field Maintenance Robert Garlin, Field Maintenance and Secretary/Financial Lynn Schoppaul.

 

Absent:  Ass’t. League Facilitator Robert Descheemaker, Field and League Facilitator Michael Patterson and Member Casey Coble

                                                                                                                                              

Minutes of the April 2nd, 2008 meeting were approved as read.   

 

Status of Park Board accounts:  Park Account - $1,459.53

                                                    DCNR Account - $1,011.13

 

Old Business:         

 

1.        Playground installation – A Saturday workday is scheduled for Saturday, May 10th at 8:00 AM.  Park Board members will provide Donuts and Coffee, and Hamburgers and Hotdogs.  The post holes will be dug out and concrete forms will be made and put in place.  Waggoner Construction will donate concrete tube forms for the smaller posts.   Mark Schoppaul reported on the availability and pricing on plastic lumber for the permanent grant sign holder. 

 

2.     Shrubs & Trees – The shrubs and trees we were to receive were taken by another organization before the road crew had time to retrieve them. 

 

3.     Soccer & Lacrosse – The Latin League has started using the fields.  They are working with the soccer league on coordinating usage.

 

4.     Motorcycle Ride – Need to set a date, a Sunday is recommend.  Flyers need to be put out at least a month ahead of the ride.  The plan is for the ride to start at a motorcycle dealership in Gettysburg, and travel back roads to the park, to make the ride different from other ride routes.   A motion to set the date for September 21st, 2008, for the Latimore Township Park Ride, with September, 14th, 2008 as an alternate date, subject to Chief Weigand’s approval by Robert Garland, 2nd by Lynn Schoppaul, passed.  Robert Garlin will liaison with the chief.

 

New Business:

 

1.     Mark Schoppaul suggested contacting the school about the possibility of students looking for Senior projects, or Eagle Scout candidates, doing projects related to the park.  Some possible ideas are replacing the current grant sign holders with recycled plastic lumber signs, installing trash containers along the parking lot, installing recycling bins at the park, or other projects subject to the Park Board approval. 

 

2.     Soccer & Lacrosse – Soccer donated $250.00 and Lacrosse donated $300.00 toward the porta-potty fees.  Thank you letters will be sent to both.

 

3.     Park Use Agreement – Mark Schoppaul proposed reviewing and making changes to the Latimore Township Park Use Agreement.  It needs to include clauses regarding mowing of the fields by the leagues who reserve the fields, and be updated and reviewed by the solicitor.

 

       

 

Bills List:  A motion by Lynn Schoppaul, 2nd by Mark Schoppaul, to pay the bills passed.
