LATIMORE TOWNSHIP PARK BOARD MINUTES
June 4, 2008
The advertised regular monthly meeting of the Latimore Township Park Board was held on June 4, 2008 at the Latimore Township Building at 559 Old U.S. Route 15, York Springs, PA 17372. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Chairman Woody Myers.
Pledge of Allegiance
In Attendance: Chairman Woody Myers, Vice Chairman Mark Schoppaul, Field Maintenance Robert Garlin, Field Maintenance, Secretary/Financial Lynn Schoppaul and Member Casey Coble.
Absent: Ass’t. League Facilitator Robert Descheemaker, Field and League Facilitator Michael Patterson.
Minutes of the May 7th, 2008 meeting were approved as read.
Status of Park Board accounts: Park Account - $7,035.40
DCNR Account - $1,011.13
Secretary/Financial Lynn Schoppaul will contact the township Treasurer to go over the Park Board accounts.
Old Business:
1. Playground installation – The rain has delayed any further work at this point. Once the weather dries up more, work will continue. An offer has been made to donate polyester fabric for the barrier cloth. A sample is being obtained to be evaluated by FPE for suitability.
2. Mowing – Due to the rain, mowing is being done as it can be. Weed whacking is being done by a teen doing community service. Hearing protection is available in the shed.
3. Motorcycle Ride – Chief Weigands joined the meeting for the discussion of the ride. The ride will be scheduled for September 14th with the 21st as rain date. A poster/flyer will be designed, and should be printed on brightly colored paper. The length of the ride will be 65-70 miles, starting at the Harley dealer in Gettysburg, with registration at 9:30 – 10:00 AM, the ride will start at 10:30 – 11:00 AM, and end at the park between noon and 1:00 PM, for hotdogs and hamburgers, chips & soda. The ride will be police escorted for safety. Donations will be solicited for the food. Donations to ride will be set at $15.00 for the bike & driver, $5.00 for the passenger. Flyers should be put out at all local motorcycle dealers, and other businesses and given to the leagues. The Boy Scouts Venture Crew will be contacted about cooking the food. The Lake Mead fire company will be contacted about running a raffle under their small games of chance license.
4. Park Use Agreement – A work meeting will be scheduled for sometime in July. The leagues input will be solicited.
New Business:
1. The Latin League from Gettysburg donated $300.00 toward the porta-potty at the park. A thank you letter will be sent.
2. Mark Schoppaul discussed involving youth groups and school students in community service projects at the park. Casey Coble will be the contact with Bermudian Springs School District. A list of possible projects include permanently mounted trashcan holders, recycling bins, bulletin boards, signs, benches, a labyrinth, shade trees around the playground, fitness stations along the walking trail.
3. A community night will arranged at a restaurant for early October. Tickets will be passed out at the motorcycle ride and to the leagues using the park.
Bills List: A motion by Lynn Schoppaul , 2nd by Mark Schoppaul, to pay the bills passed. Reimbursement from the township will be sought for the Insurance bill for $71.00.
