CRIME WATCH MINUTES FOR 3/27/03

The meeting was called to order at 7:35 PM.
The minutes were read by Myron Bird. Motion was made and approved to accept the minutes as read.

LAW EMFORCEMENT REPORT:

Officer Michael C. Weigand was introduced and gave a report on police calls for the months of February and March. There have been a total of 75 police calls for the month of March, So far no calls for service have been made in Lake Meade.
There was a question as to why police handle calls at Bermudian School District and what kinds of calls they are. Officer Weigand explained what calls are typically at the school and informed that Crime Watch is working.

COORDINATOR'S REPORTS:

Donna (York Springs) - No Report

Bob (Lake Meade) - Correction made in the Lake Meader that membership to Crime Watch is not mandatory and also discussed the placement of where the Crime Watch signs were to be installed.
Myron informed everyone that Bob is now on the Board of Directors at Lake Meade.

Bud (Latimore) - No Report.

OLD BUSINESS:

Officer Weigand informed everyone that the Crime Watch signs were ordered and will be ready soon.

NEW BUSINESS:

Officer Weigand discussed programs for the summer. The 4th of May is Kid's Day at All Sports in Gettysburg. Officer Michael C. Weigand is in the process of obtaining the 911 Van for that program. Officer Mike Weigand explained what the 911 Van was and asked for help at the table on that day.
Myron informed he will talk to 911 Dispatch to assist. It was also discussed about displaying the 911 Van at Bermudian Elementary School.

May 15th is Park Day at Latimore Park.

National Night Out - Officer Mike Weigand explained concept of what the communities do on this night and suggested doing something within the local communities possibly using Latimore Fair Grounds with a parade and picnic. He informed there could possibly be a lot of community participation.
Bob stated that someone needed to coordinate it. Officer Mike Weigand informed group that he knew someone that had experience and his wife agreed to coordinate everything if that was the wishes of the membership. Also stated that the 911 Van would be a great idea for the festival on August 2nd. Officer Weigand explained that the 911 Van was out of Allegheny County and hard to get at times and that it's usually out at that time.

GOOD OF THE ORDER:

Myron stated that Officer Mike Weigand did a great job at the Lake Meade Annual Meeting. The next Crime Watch meeting would be 4/24 at Lake Meade.

PROGRAM:

Homeland Security - Officer Weigand explained that the FBI was in town after 9/11 talking to our police department.
     Be Alert- Take protective action
Explained what to do and how to prior to an emergency.
Practice plans. Explained pets need cared for also. Meet with neighbors on how to work together. What to do after an emergency strikes. Officer Weigand asked members to pass information along and advised it's on the internet and gave the website. Important information on spotting and reporting suspicious behavior:
     Size- gender
     Activity - what are they doing
     Location - exactly where are they
     Uniform - what are they wearing
     Time - date and duration
     Equipment - vehicle or anything they are using

DUI Check Points - Experienced officers recruit and train other officers to work check points. Myron expects grant money available for equipment.
