ATTENDANCE: Myron Bird, Officer Michael C. Weigand, Jim Stine, John Steele, Bob Zanghedeh, Kim Weigand, Officer William Ceravola, Nelson Wheller and Officer Michael Weigand Senior.
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM
Minutes were read by Kim Weigand, Motion was made by Bob and minutes were approved.
Police: Reading: Officer Ceravola informed group that there were 23 incidents in the lake in May including EMS, dog harassment, suspicious person, theft, traffic and vehicle stops. 38 incidents in June including 911 hang ups, accident, domestic, house checks, harassment, noise complaints traffic stops. Bob questioned the suspicious person and Myron asked how many times were the police out on patrol from midnight to 6:AM. Officer Ceravola stated until 2:am usually and there is a scouting camera available for Lake Meade.
Latimore: May 141 calls total
June 4 calls to the high school, 4 to Lake Meade, 73 to Latimore Twp. And 34 to York Springs
Bob asked about staff of YSLT. Officer Mike Senior explained what area is covered with a staff of 2 full time and 5 part time officers and the cars in use. With the population of residents there should be more officers. Officer Weigand explained the crime watch program and concept and Reading Twp's involvement and where the police station is located
Officer Ceravola explained that Reading had 3 full time officers, three cars, where the police station is located and the coverage of the officers.
Bob asked if they were also involved in Home Land Security? All the officers agreed and explained that Route 15 is a corridor and is important.
Bob asked about a rumor of elevated crime in Hanover, officers stated they were unaware of that as it is York County.
LAKE MEADE CONCERNS:
Myron- discussion of Block Parent. Association felt there were too many issues of lack of control and liability of association.
Officer Mike Weigand Sr. responded regarding the Good Samaratin Act.
Officer Ceravola stated it was hard to say what would happen in court, maybe check with insurance company and check with them.
Officer Weigand said he would contact Donna at Crime Watch for information on liability or the legalities and requested Kim Weigand to contact Senator Jane Orie for information on the Good Samaritan Act.
Bob commented on the ATV - the court case was lost and no further action was taken.
Myron questioned where is Latimore with the curfew law.
Officer Mike C Weigand stated that the secretary has a copy and there is a meeting with Mr. Worley to discuss just enforcing it in Lake Meade.
The officers explained all they need is a name of someone violating the ordinance and a citation or warning will be issued.
Bob asked if they were losing the battle against speeding. Officer Mike Weigand Senior stated continuously. Myron brought up about possibly contracting the two police departments extra time for nothing but traffic.
Officer Weigand explained probably if over time rate was paid. Explained traffic detail and the benefits and pitfalls of speed bumps. That visibility was the best solution.
Officer Mike C Weigand informed that the cordless inrad is easier to clock vehicles with. Latimore Twp received a grant for one.
It was also stated that the rumor of the police departments not having authority in Lake Meade is not true and was published in the Lake Meader.
LATIMORE TWP. CONCERNS:
No representative present.
Nelson stated that speeding at Braggtown is mostly Lake Meade residents. The officers agreed.
Bob asked what the overtime rate would be for an officer.
Officer Weigand said he would check on that and inform the committee.
GOOD OF THE ORDER:
Officer Mike Weigand Senior - there is a Crime Stoppers Hotline reward number for underage drinking and we need to get the message out.
There is a request for a poster with the hotline number on it for Lake Meade.
Next meeting will be held on August 25th at Lake Meade at 7:30
