Latimore Township Crime Watch Community Committee

 

 

The meeting commenced at 7:00 P.M. Thursday Jan. 22nd.  Latimore Township building

 

Highlights of the Dec. 2009 meeting:

 

  1. Committee approved the purchase of Video Cameras.
  2. Article placed in the Lake Meader
  3. Article published in local Hanover paper on the Video System
  4. Article offered for publication to the local Gettysburg paper
  5. Chairman was interview by local TV station ref. the Video System
  6. Our financial position remained work in progress.
  7. Received contributions totaling $100.00.

  1. Introduction of Sgt. John Schreiner as a new member of the Latimore Township Police Department. Thirteen years of experience, DARE instructor.
  2. Current staff: 1 full time and 5 part time officer’s.
  3. Video Camera System.
  4. Call activity report: Chief Weigand
  5. Financial: Myron Bird, we are now LTLMCCW, and have a 501© Classification
  6. Questions from the floor regarding bonding, and liability
  7. Not reporting criminal activities
  8. Rt. 15 traffic campaign
  9. Schedule of future CW meetings for the balance of the year.
  10. New police Motorcycle

 

 

Sgt. Schreiner was introduced by Chief M. Weigand to the committee. We welcome Sgt. Schreiner, and thank him for his service to our community.

 

Staff: The Chief indicated that we currently have one full time officer, that would be Chief Weigand and five part time officers.

 

Video System: Chief Weigand indicated the software will be downloaded into the computer this week, and the system will hopefully be tested early next week.

May have to meet with the supervisors and submit our request.

 

Questions from the floor:

 

Bonding requirement:  Should the committee be bonded? Response: Since we do not have a great deal of money in our program at this time, the cost of bonding would not be cost effective..

 

Liability: Should the committee carry liability or personal injury insurance: Response:

The program activities fall under the Good Samaritan Act and therefore we do not need the coverage, nor can we afford it at this time. 

 

 

Not reporting Criminal Activities:  Concern from the floor, that some members of Lake Meade are not reporting criminal or mischievous activities within the lake.

Response: Chairman will meet with the Lake Meade Traffic and Safety Committee in March, when they meet next and address this issue. There is nothing that either the Lake Meade Security nor the Township Police can do, if members do not get a call. Simple.

  

 

Route 15 Traffic Safety Campaign:

Development of a campaign theme has been created, and number of ideas are under consideration to include, education, enforcement, Engineering, Community Partnership to include Municipalities, Schools, Colleges, Law Enforcement Agencies, First Responders, business/industry along Route 15, Community Organizations, dealing with the Williams Grove Speedway, working with the media, to include radio, television, movie theaters, working with Penn DOT, and Maryland Department of Transportation.

Schedule of future CW meetings:

Feb. 26, March 26, April 23, May 28, June 25, July 23, Aug. 27, Sept. 24, Oct. 22, Nov. 19 and Dec. 17. All meetings will be held at the Latimore Township Building 559 Old US Route 15

 

New Police Motorcycle:  Our new police motorcycle, contribution of  Battlefield Harley-Davidson of Gettysburg has arrived. Decals will be placed on the cycle shortly; the unit will be operation soon. We thank Battlefield Harley-Davidson of Gettysburg for this contribution to our Township Police Department.
