MINUTES OF 1/30/03


     The January Latimore Township/York Springs Community Crime Watch Association Meeting was held at the York Springs Fire Department. The meeting was called to order at 7:42 PM by Mike Weigand. There were 8 members present.


MINUTES:

     The minutes of the prior meeting were read and approved by the membership.

FINANCIAL REPORT:

     The treasurers report was also read and approved by the membership.

LAW ENFORCEMENT REPORT:

     The report was given by Officer Weigand. He advised us that the total number of calls for Latimore Township York Springs area for 2002 was 1052. The breakdown was as follows:

The average per month for 2002 was 87 calls.

The Holiday Happenings that was held at Lake Meade in December was attended by Officer Mike Weigand, Myron Bird and Magruff the Crime Dog.

Officer Weigand and Cpl. Hanson have been attending update seminars. These seminars have been addressing the increase in stalking incidents and also terrorism incidents and how the police should respond.

With regard to traffic safety, a new law will become effective on February 21st that will increase the fine for an unrestrained child from $25. to $100. This will also be a primary offence, and the police will not need another reason to stop a vehicle if they see an unrestrained child. In addition, any youth from the age of 8-18 years of age MUST have a seat belt on regardless of where they are in the vehicle.

     No report available.

LAKE MEADE, BOB ZANGUENEH:

     Bob reported that the security committee would fund the purchase of the 13 signs to be placed at Lake Meade. It was also discussed that there would be Crime Watch representation at the annual board meeting to be held in March.

LATIMORE TOWNSHIP, BUD HUBER:

     Bud reported that he has gotten from 6-8 phone calls about the Crime Watch Assoc. and has given out applications. He has collected $412.00 in donations from local businesses for Crime Watch signs and still has another $200-$250 promised. Great Job Bud! A motion was made by Don and seconded by Bob that thank you letters be mailed to all that made donations to the purchase of the signs. The motion was passed and the letters will be sent out by the secretary.


OLD BUSINESS:

     Bud made a motion and it was seconded by Bob that the association purchase 50 signs, at a cost of $5.50 each. The metal will be donated by Colin Arndt and they will round the corners as well. The signs will be a white background with medium blue reflective lettering. They will be distributed as follows:

NEW BUSINESS:

     There will be a Health and Safety Day for Kids at the Gettysburg Hospital on Sunday May 4th. from 1-4 pm. We will need to provide coverage for an information table for that event.


GOOD OF THE ORDER:

     The Knights of Columbus Council #2551 will host a "Blue Mass" in honor of law enforcement, fire fighters, EMT's and other volunteer first responders on February 17th at 7:00 PM at the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, on N 3rd Street, McSherrystown.


NEXT MEETING INFORMATION:

     The next meeting of the Crime Watch Association will be held at Lake Meade Firehouse at 7:30 PM February 27th.
With no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:24 PM


PROGRAM:

     Officer Weigand shared with us some of the recent changes in the law with regard to "search and seizure" and also terrorism with respect to first responders and HAZMAT teams.
